I need someone to talk to

If you feel that you need to talk to someone, there are also a number of helplines and forums you can access and you can speak to someone about how you’re feeling. Some are designed for adults and some are designed for young people.

Who can I call for help?

  • In an emergency, please dial 999
  • You can also attend your local A&E department if you feel unable to keep yourself safe
  • Contact your out-of-hours GP service. Google ‘out of hours GP in x’ (give your location)
  • Inform your GP if you feel that your mental health is deteriorating
  • Contact your local 24-hour NHS Urgent Mental Health Helpline
  • Samaritans – free 116 123 (24-hour) or email [email protected] (72-hour response)

Chasing the Stigma partnership

Priory has teamed up with national mental health charity Chasing the Stigma, to help people access a range of support via a unique and free online directory called the Hub of Hope. The Hub of Hope connects people of all ages to more than 14,000 services and groups across the UK, directing them to the nearest relevant local support using either their postcode or the location of the web browser or mobile.

Helplines for adults

  • Samaritans - free 116 123 (24-hour) or email [email protected] or visit some branches in person (72 hour response). Welsh language line on 0808 164 0123 (7pm to 11pm every day)
  • Saneline - 0300 304 7000 (4pm to 10pm every day) or sane.org.uk to access their other services
  • NHS – 111 provides 24/7 mental health crisis support, select the mental health option and speak to a trained professional. Call 999 for emergencies.
  • Alcoholics Anonymous – free 0800 9177 650 or email [email protected]
  • The Silver Line – a helpline for older people. Free 0800 4 70 80 90 (24-hour) or thesilverline.org.uk

How can Priory help?

At Priory, we can offer fast access to services for people who:

  • Need expert support with their mental health or an addiction, whose situation does not need immediate support from the emergency services
  • For those who have accessed emergency support, Priory can assist you once your condition has been stabilised

If you fit the above criteria, you can contact our friendly team on 0330 056 6024, and we'll be able to advise you on the continuing support we can provide. This might include intensive inpatient treatment at one of our hospital sites, where you’ll be able to address the underlying causes for your difficulties and take steps towards recovery.

We also offer free addiction assessments at all of our hospitals, for people needing help with an addiction, and we can provide medically assisted detoxification (detox) for those who need to come off alcohol and drugs safely.

While we’re not an emergency service at Priory, we’re dedicated to your onward recovery and stabilisation, and will help you to get back on track. Our highly trained mental health treatment experts will help you to understand your issues, and support you every step of the way towards a healthier and more positive future.
